NVIDIA seems to have finalized the launch timeframe of its next big RTX 50 launch: the 24 GB GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB Is Launching At A Time When GPU Prices Are Blowing Through The Roof Over the past few months, we have heard a lot about the 24 GB GeForce RTX 5080 that NVIDIA is preparing for the gaming crowd. This new option looks interesting as it features a 50% upgrade of VRAM over the existing model, but will also feature a hefty price tag. If you've been following our recent reports, almost all DRAM manufacturers, SK Hynix, Samsung, & Micron, have rung the alarm bells on memory supply constraints persisting till 2030, and the situation becoming even worse in the coming year than it is now. We have seen existing graphics cards such as the RTX 5090 hit over $7000 ($1999 MSRP) and RTX 5080 16 GB models climb over $2000 ($999 MSRP). Based on a new report from Board Channels, NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB graphics card is now aiming for a release much earlier than anticipated. It is said that the card can arrive as early as December 2026 and as late as January 2027. We believe a January release would be more likely, as NVIDIA will get to present the card during its CES 2027 showcase. But a 24 GB RTX 5080 would immediately cost more than a 16 GB RTX 5080 due to its higher DRAM configuration. The source also states that NVIDIA will discontinue existing models for Chinese markets such as the RTX 5090D V2 and the 16 GB RTX 5080, while focusing on the new 24GB RTX 5080. With that said, NVIDIA was able to produce and ship enough 16 GB RTX 5080 GPUs to last them around two months, which is enough time till the launch of the newer products. NVIDIA will discontinue supplying the RTX 5090 DV2 and RTX 5080 16G series models to the Chinese market. Going forward, the only flagship graphics card model available for the Chinese market will be the RTX 5080 24G series. 1. NVIDIA has cleared all its RTX 5080 16G series GPU inventory, enough to last approximately two months, until the new products are released. 2. NVIDIA is accelerating the launch of the RTX 5080 24G series, expecting it to be available around January, possibly as early as December, or as late as January. Now one question regarding this 24 GB RTX 5080 model that isn't being raised is whether it will be similar to the RTX 5080 SUPER, which was reported a while back, or if this will be a different SKU altogether. The RTX 5080 SUPER was going to feature the GB203-450 GPU with higher clock speeds, faster memory pin speeds, leading to faster bandwidth, and a higher TBP. You can see the differences below: If the 24 GB model is similar to the rumored "SUPER" model, then we can anticipate a nice boost, but if it's just a VRAM bump, then the difference would be much smaller while paying a heavy price tag. NVIDIA is also pushing local AI a lot more these days, and a 24 GB RTX 5080 would be gobbled up by even more AI audiences before it gets in the hands of gamers as we've seen this happening in Chinese markets who are procuring stockpiles of RTX 5090 graphics cards and selling them off to AI firms.
