Another price hike has been implemented, and this time, multiple CPU families are reportedly getting affected.
Intel Reportedly Increases Panther Lake Price by 15-20%; Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, And Alder Lake Also Affected While AMD is Expected to Follow the Suit
Intel's latest pricing strategy appears to have taken effect before the expected timeline. In early September, we reported that Intel would raise its CPU prices by up to 10% in October. However, the latest report from Taiwanese media CTEE suggests that the price hike has already taken place in September. According to information from supply chain sources, Intel has raised prices for multiple CPU generations.
This includes the Panther Lake, Arrow Lake, Meteor Lake, Alder Lake, and Twin Lake CPUs. As far as Panther Lake is concerned, it's mostly the products with the high-end iGPU. So, expect the 10- and 12-core iGPU variants to be costlier than ever. The report suggests a good 15-20% price hike for these chips. It's unclear whether every SKU has been affected by the price hike, but going by the price changes for previous-generation CPU families, it appears that Intel might have raised the prices for every Panther Lake SKU.
Then we have the previous generation of Core Ultra series processors, including Meteor Lake, and even the current Arrow Lake chips, witnessing a 5-10% price hike. For entry-level low-power chips like Twin Lake and the 12th gen Alder Lake, we have a 10-20% price hike, which will make existing products based on these chips more expensive.
Intel isn't the only company to raise its CPU prices, as we now have Qualcomm announcing a 10% price hike for its Snapdragon X and X2 Elite chips. The price hike has already been implemented, starting October 1st. Then we have AMD waiting to announce a price hike for "some" of its Ryzen and EPYC CPU families. At the moment, we have multiple Ryzen CPU series active in the market, including Ryzen 5000, Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 9000 series.
It's expected that some of these CPU families might incur a 10% price hike in the near future, and the reason for all these price hikes is said to be tied to the increased TSMC wafer costs, which we have mentioned previously.
