The Q3 2026 financial results from Intel are here, with the company posting revenue of $16.5 billion, which is up 21 percent from $13.7 billion a year earlier. The company’s standout performer was the Data Center and AI (DCAI) group, which posted $7.3 billion in revenue, resulting in a 78 percent jump year-over-year. Despite operating income for the segment more than tripling to $3.04 billion from $964 million, not every segment from Intel has a happy ending. In fact, the PC segment has a grim tale, as we dive deeper into the figures. CFO David Zinsner stated that Intel’s Q3 2026 results were the company’s strongest data center growth in 15 years, but the PC category slipped 5 percent CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company’s immediate priority is unlocking more supply to meet what he described as extraordinary demand for Xeon, with Intel’s CFO David Zinsner also commenting on the remarkable performance from the data center side. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive news ends, as the Client Computing and Physical AI Group (CCPG) saw the complete opposite of the DCAI group. CCPG brought in $8.1 billion, down 5 percent, with operating income slipping to $2.29 billion from $2.69 billion. Zinsner has sounded alarm bells, stating that the PC slowdown is expected to continue at least through the first half of next year, and Intel’s risk disclosures point to industry-wide substrate and memory shortages as a lingering concern. As for the foundry business, it generated $6.7 billion in revenue, up 58 percent when including internal sales, though it still posted an operating loss of $1.85 billion. Still, the silver lining is that it’s an improvement on the $2.32 billion loss from the same quarter last year. During the Q3 2026 quarter, Intel released the 14A 0.9 process design kit and announced collaborations with ASML on High-NA EUV, along with Lam Research and Applied Materials on new capacity and joint R&D. Profitability improved sharply on an underlying basis, with Intel’s non-GAAP gross margin rising to 44.1 percent from 40.0 percent, and non-GAAP operating margin climbing to 19.6 percent from 11.2 percent. The fourth-quarter outlook is where investors may see some caution. After all, Intel is guiding revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, which is below the Q3 2026 level, with non-GAAP gross margin falling to around 38 percent, roughly half of this quarter’s result. During the earnings announcement, Intel doesn’t explain the Q4 margin decline, and it gives no segment-level guidance. The closest context that we could determine was Zinsner’s comment regarding the PC slowdown continuing at least through the first half of next year, and Tan’s focus on unlocking Xeon supply. Any explanation for the margin drop, such as product mix, ramp costs, or memory pricing, we’ll learn in future updates, so it’s best that readers remain patient for our future analysis.
