A different mounting area might help your GPU maintain much lower temperatures than keeping it in the conventional area.
TrashBench Mounts GPU on the Side Panel, Dropping GPU Hotspot Temperature by 19°C, While Also Improving Core, VRAM, and VRM Thermals
You might be underestimating the front panel when it comes to cooling. Yes, there is a specific place for everything, including components like the motherboard, the GPU, and the cooler, but a few tweaks might help with your system's thermal throttling. Of course, this isn't really a practical way of assembling a computer, but if you have already been facing trouble maintaining lower GPU temperatures, this workaround might help you.
Trashbench, who is known for crazy hardware experiments, has uploaded a new video on how he brought his GPU core temperature down by around 17°C. In the video, he tests conventional GPU setups against a configuration where he puts it in an unusual place. After testing and taking the temperature readings in the conventional horizontal GPU layout directly installed in the PCIe slot on the motherboard, the modder proceeds to install it directly on the bottom panel.
By removing the dust filter that came into contact with the spinning GPU fans, the modder took the readings again and discovered that while GPU temperatures didn't budge even a little, the CPU temperature dropped by around 4°C. It was pretty obvious since the GPU was still pulling the air from the same area in both setups, which didn't affect the thermals much.
However, as soon as he decided to place the GPU vertically near the front/side-panel with triple intake fans using a PCIe riser cable, things changed dramatically. The new readings showed a sharp drop in GPU temperatures, which clearly indicated that a different orientation and installation area can affect cooling. The GPU hotspot temperature dropped by a whopping 19°C; the GPU core also saw a 16.7°C temperature reduction, and the VRAM and VRM temperatures also dropped significantly.
Apparently, putting the GPU before the fans on the other side didn't do much, but installing it right after the intake fans made a huge improvement in cooling. The modder made more changes in the next setup to improve CPU cooling alongside lowering GPU temperatures, but the "GPU Side Intake" Brought the maximum benefits to the GPU.
