Jornal da Band

Last week, a group of highly skilled thieves took off with $500,000 worth of RTX 5090 GPUs from São Paulo airport, leaving little trace of the act until now. One of the accomplices likely got greedy and wanted to earn a quick buck from these graphics cards sales, but that also made the person a target because the $6,400 listing has been spotted on an online marketplace.
The serial number of the RTX 5090 matches the same shipment imported by the distributor who filed the complaint of stolen GPUs, with the listing being removed
One of the thieves has demonstrated subpar intelligence after the successful heist because one OLX listing spotted by VideoCardz and @gossipdogame shows one of the graphics cards available for sale at a price of R$34,000, which translates into roughly $6,430 to $6,720, with the figure dropping to R$32,000.
Since the URL and original images of the RTX 5090 GPU have been circulating, it wasn’t difficult to trace that this graphics card belongs to the same shipment imported by Maringá-based distributor Oderço, who filed a theft complaint in the first place, thanks to this unit sharing the same serial number.
The OLX advertisement is the first proper shred of evidence that $500,000 worth of RTX 5090 GPUs were stolen from the Brazilian airport, making it less difficult for police to pinpoint the location of the culprits. After all, making an OLX account requires you to input your email address and registered phone number, so it’s possible that the authorities work together with the marketplace team to triangulate where these criminals operate from.
Additional findings from Jornal da Band report about the findings of security footage that showed two subcontracted forklift operators allegedly removed the pallets from the warehouse on September 21. A third employee is also said to be involved with the gang, as this individual was responsible for authorizing the release through the airport’s internal system.
After looking at what has unraveled, it’s clear that these thieves might have been masterminds when it comes to execution, but lack proper awareness of what not to do in drawing the wrong kind of attention. The seller could have easily sold the RTX 5090 without having to upload a listing on OLX, and chances are he could have sold the GPU at a significantly higher price.
Now, this person is probably sweating profusely over the possibility that the authorities begin knocking at this door.
