The prominent overclocker has revealed why the RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN was facing a problem with its production.
Overclocker KINGPIN Says NVIDIA's Limitation on Using Single 12VHPWR Connector on RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN "Screwed up the Production Timeline"
The legendary overclocker Vince "KINGPIN" Lucido has uploaded his very first video on his new YouTube channel called Overclock Kingpin, where he announces that he is working with ASUS. In the video, Vince showed off some hardware sent by ASUS for testing, but he also talked about some previous issues he faced while working at EVGA.
We know that the EVGA and NVIDIA relationship couldn't last long and ended in 2022 when the board partner couldn't sustain its GPU business, as NVIDIA's own Founders Edition cards were competing with EVGA's custom GPUs. At the same time, NVIDIA wanted EVGA to price the budget GPUs lower to the point where the company was selling its GPUs at a loss.
Vince said that when it came to the production of EVGA's last flagship card, which was the EVGA RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN Hybrid edition, NVIDIA messed up the production line, as Vince wanted the GPU to have dual 12VHPWR connections, while NVIDIA wanted to limit it to just one connector. The GPU eventually launched three months after the launch of the RTX 3090 Ti, but the production line was interrupted due to the connector issue.
Right before the 3090 Ti KINGPIN launched, NVIDIA tried to force us to use one power connector on the card and it really screwed the production timeline up of my card and it actually ended up being severely limited because of it. I just think if you’re going to spend 5,000 plus on a card, you should really be able to do with it what you want.
- Vince KINGPIN Lucido
This also resulted in fewer units being produced and was the last flagship NVIDIA GPU EVGA ever made. The RTX 3090 Ti was launched at a hefty price tag of $1,999, and the RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN Hybrid card with dual 12-pin connectors launched at $2,500, bundled with a 1600W PSU. Vince "KINGPIN" Lucido now wants to collaborate with ASUS for DIY content. Moreover, he has high hopes of making an ROG KINGPIN card in the future.
