Earlier this month, NVIDIA’s flagship GPU, the RTX 5090, disappeared from the company’s online marketplace, and now, we can add another graphics card to this list. The RTX 5080 is the next product to be removed from the list, and that too, shortly after reports emerged that NVIDIA is prepping a 24GB VRAM model for a release that could potentially happen before the start of 2027.
Before being removed from NVIDIA’s online marketplace, the RTX 5080 soared in price, becoming pricier than the RTX 5090’s launch MSRP
Visiting the online marketplace, we noticed that in the consumer graphics cards section, not only is there no option to choose an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080, but any and all custom variants from NVIDIA’s partners using the aforementioned GPUs are no longer available. Currently, the fastest GPU listed here is the RTX 5070 Ti, and as you can see in the image below, there are a multitude of ASUS variants to choose from, albeit at a substantial premium.
To be fair, the writing was on the wall for the RTX 5080, as before disappearing from the marketplace, the GPU’s price crossed the $2,000 mark at various retailers, signaling that inventory had run dry. So far, we don’t have confirmation whether the new RTX 5080 equipped with 24GB VRAM will be similar to the RTX 5080 SUPER, which was reported about a while back, or if this will be a different SKU altogether.
Bear in mind that the RTX 5080 SUPER was expected to feature the GB203-450 GPU with higher clock speeds and faster memory pin speeds, resulting in faster bandwidth and a higher power limit. One benefit of the 24GB VRAM is that NVIDIA can now target multiple customer bases with the upcoming release.
In addition to delivering superb gaming performance, buyers who want to run local AI models won’t be limited to the 16GB framebuffer, with the 24GB headroom offering flexibility in running quantized 27B parameter models. Unfortunately, looking at the current DRAM crisis, we doubt the new RTX 5080 will be available at an acceptable price.
More importantly, we don’t believe there will be an adequate supply for consumers, meaning that the graphics card will likely be sold at highly inflated prices.
