Intel's upcoming Crescent Island "D-Series" GPUs have been shown off in a dual-package on a liquid-cooled OAM card.
Intel D-Series GPUs To Pack Up To 512 GB Memory, First OAM Designs Revealed While Xe3P GPUs Pictured In Single & Dual Packages
Just a few days after its unveiling, the Intel D-Series "Crescent Island" family is seeing more updates from OAM designs, to first dual-chip solutions. The information comes from Intel itself, presented on social media and during OCP 2026.
Starting off with the details, we know that Intel's D-Series GPUs, formerly Crescent Island, will be based on the Xe3P architecture. This is an updated design that will offer various enhancements over the existing Xe3 architecture, such as (full Xe3P architectural disclosure here):
- Agentic AI Ready: High memory capacity and sustained compute
- LPDDR5x: Higher density, lower power. Enhanced reliability with no BW/capacity loss
- AI Optimized: Featuring larger context lengths, higher memory, and performance/TCO
- Prefill Optimized: High FLOP/W, compute-bound workloads
The first product to leverage the Xe3P architecture is the D270, which is an Intel reference design, and we know from previous details that reference configurations will feature 160 GB of LPDDR5X memory, while partner configurations will feature up to 480 GB of LPDDR5X memory.
Some AICs might even offer 512 GB of VRAM (via @Haze2K1). The memory subsystem will offer up to 1.5 TB/s of bandwidth, and this will be the first GPU to feature LPDDR5X memory while tackling the broader AI segment.
At Hot Chips 2026, we also learned that the Intel Crescent Island GPUs would pack up to 32 Xe3P cores and a TDP of 350W in air-cooled designs. The reference solution is expected to offer 1300 TFLOPs of 1.3 PFLOPs of FP8 compute capabilities. This is achieved thanks to 256 next-gen XMX AI units embedded within each chip.
Now, as for the Crescent Island "D-Series" GPUs, we are also getting our first chip shots of this part. Based on the N3P process technology, the Intel D-Series GPU looks smaller than the BMG-G31 Battlemage chip, but it makes sense why it's smaller since it replaces most of the core parts with AI-specific accelerators.
Intel is also opening up the designs to its partners with an OAM variant showcased at OCP. The module showcased by Intel features two D-Series "Crescent Island" GPUs, each with its own set of LPDDR5X memory, a PLX connector that acts as a bridge, and a Mezzanine connector. The OAM solution features a large copper block with integrated liquid cooling.
But that's not all; Intel has also announced that it will deliver Day-0 support for Meta Muse Spark Open using four 160 GB Intel GPU D-Series cards. With 640 GB of memory at hand (using 160 GB reference designs), Intel states that the compact four-card configuration will easily host massive model sizes of 816b parameters, using a conventional air-cooled design.
At OCP 2026, Intel also announced that the Crescent Island D-Series GPUs will be a scalable platform with smaller configurations designed for local AI, x8 workstation/server configs & pushing out over 80+ GPUs inside rack-scale solutions to tackle Frontier models such as Grok 3, Kimi K3, and DeepSeek V4 Pro.
Additionally, Intel will also leverage its SambaNova RDU stack and couple it with GPU D-Series to scale for low-latency AI workloads where the Prefill part of token generation will be handled by Crescent Island, and the Decode part will be handled by the RDUs, similar to NVIDIA's Groq 3 LPX, and AMD's Cerebras WSE-type configurations.
Intel's Crescent Island GPU platform is shaping up to be a competitive product for the Agentic AI space. While the company isn't announcing any launch plans yet, based on the development and product showcases, we believe we'll get to see a formal roll-out within this year as Intel sets its sights on an AI win of its own.
