At a creative industry event that took place today in Berlin — hosted in collaboration with Adobe, Bertelsmann, NVIDIA and UFA — the latest advancements in intelligent media were on display.
Key to the news: the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is collaborating with NVIDIA to expand its sovereign framework with cloud, open models and integration partners, while Adobe Frame.io is accelerating video agent search capabilities with NVIDIA GPUs, helping German TV and film producer UFA find the right moments faster.

Sovereign Clouds and Open Models Built for European Broadcasters
The EBU and NVIDIA are expanding the sovereign standards they introduced last year for European public service media. The initiative now brings in sovereign cloud providers, open model developers and systems integrators to define how broadcasters can deploy agents while keeping control of their data, infrastructure, models and security.
The EBU is the world’s leading alliance of public service media, with over 115 member organizations in more than 55 countries reaching over 1 billion people. As agents move into newsrooms, production and audience services, those broadcasters need a foundation that protects editorial independence, data sovereignty and national resilience.
The expanded initiative is turning those principles into deployable services. It’ll define requirements and reference architectures for where workloads run, how data is governed, which models power services and how systems stay secure throughout their lifecycle.
“These standards give EBU members a shared foundation to strengthen resilience, retain control and deliver accountable advanced services that sustain audience trust,” said Antonio Arcidiacono, chief technology and innovation officer at the EBU.
Cloud providers will map the standards to sovereign deployment options:
- Microsoft will bring expertise from Microsoft Sovereign Cloud, including Azure Local and Foundry Local, so broadcasters can process sensitive editorial material locally and keep critical services running when external connectivity is down.
- Nebius offers a platform for broadcasters to train, fine-tune and run their own models on European infrastructure.
Open models give broadcasters the visibility to inspect, evaluate and adapt AI for local languages, archives and editorial policies. NVIDIA Nemotron open models provide a foundation broadcasters can customize for domain-specific applications and public-service requirements.
“Sovereign cloud infrastructure and open models can help Europe’s public service media innovate while protecting data, editorial independence and cultural diversity,” said Delphine Ernotte, CEO of France Télévisions and president of the EBU.
Media-specific consulting and systems integration provided from Qvest and other system integrators to ensure that reference architectures are practical, interoperable and deployable in real world broadcast environments.
Adobe Frame.io Speeds Video Search With NVIDIA Accelerated Computing
Also at the event, Adobe is highlighting its latest enhancements that help creatives search through video data faster.
Adobe is using NVIDIA accelerated computing to help creative teams find and work with video content faster. Its GPU-accelerated search pipeline uses NVIDIA NVDEC for video decoding, TensorRT for optimized AI inference and the CUDA platform for preprocessing and embedding generation.
Adobe is also advancing GPU-accelerated media ingest using NVIDIA NVENC and NVDEC to accelerate video encoding and decoding, helping production teams process growing media libraries more efficiently.
The results: about 5x faster embedding generation, up to 4x higher throughput and up to 5x lower latency for search processing. A new two-frame-per-second proxy, about 80% smaller than the 360p version it replaces, cuts storage and transfer while keeping the visual detail search needs.
That speed matters for UFA, one of Germany’s leading film and TV producers. It delivers more than 3,500 hours of programming a year, including the daily drama “Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten.” When editors build a recap or flashback, they may need a specific reaction or unresolved exchange from as far back as 15 years — something file names and folders can’t surface.
Frame.io semantic search finds moments inside videos by concept, action or setting, and hybrid search adds notes, transcripts and approval status. An editor can search for “a character looking concerned,” narrow by character name and filter to approved footage, then move straight into review.
The work is part of a broader Adobe and NVIDIA collaboration that also spans Adobe Substance 3D, Firefly Foundry and 3D digital twin workflows for enterprises.
